Chilhowie Elementary School is participating in a school-wide Pizza Hut Book IT! Program this year. This program begins October 1, 2007 and runs through March 31, 2008.
Kindergarten and first grade students have a minimum number of books to read (or listen to). Parents need to write the title and author of each book on a pizza slice in the folder. Students may color the slice of pizza after the book is read. Parents should sign the page when the goal has been met each month and return the folder to school to Mrs. Rash.
Second grade through fifth grade students have a minimum number of minutes per month to read. Students may count time spent reading in any subject area (history, science, or reading homework) and just for fun. The students will have a calendar page to record the minutes read each day. These must be totaled and signed by the parent when the goal is met each month. Students will return the folder to Mrs. Rash when the goal for the month has been met.
PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD TO READ EACH NIGHT IN ORDER TO BECOME A BETTER READER!
A reading goal has been set for each student. When the goal is met each month, the student will receive a Pizza Award Certificate that is redeemable for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza at Pizza Hut and a BOOK IT! card and backpack clip on the first visit that the child can add a sticker to for each goal met! (no purchase is necessary) Each month that the student meets their goal, a sticker will be added to the class chart outside the school library and they will receive a special reward.
If the student meets their goal all six months of the program, they will be an official All-Star Reader and will be recognized at Pizza Hut with an All-Star Reader Award! These students will also be recognized and rewarded at Chilhowie Elementary School.
