Mission Statement:

The intention of the Smyth County Title I Family Literacy & Parent Resource Center is to cultivate and support active parental involvement in student learning, provide access to educational and technological resources for parents and families, and offer opportunities for adults to improve and enhance their literacy skills.Clipart of a man reading a book, with a sign on the wall that says Adult Literacy classes here tonight.

  • Provide activities that will educate parents regarding the intellectual and developmental needs of their children.

  • Implement strategies to involve parents in the educational process.

  • Provide opportunities and resources for adult literacy development.

  • Provide information, as practicable, in a language understandable to all parents and children.

 

Statement of Beliefs:

The Smyth County Title I Program believes that the education of each student is a responsibility shared by the school and the student's family. The Title I program endorses the parental involvement goals of the Family Literacy & Parent Resource Center and encourages the participation by parents of all children including those eligible for Title I and Limited English Proficiency programs in the center's projects and activities.
