About Us:
The Family Literacy & Parenting Resource
Center is a new non-profit program offered through the Smyth County
School system. The Center distributes information in cooperation with
other agencies concerning pre-school childcare, adolescent parenting,
alcohol and drug abuse, and other issues of family involvement.
We offer opportunities for children to
enjoy books, quality videos, books on tape and knowledge and skill
enhancing games. In January 2004, the Even Start Literacy Technology Grant
was awarded to the Center with which two new computers, a printer, and a
software program were purchased. The software accommodates various
instructional levels of adult readers who lack-literacy skills as well as
those young adults attending the Smyth County Career and Technical Center.
Everyone
is welcome to attend!

Workshops are conducted at the Smyth Career
and Technology Center in Seven Mile Ford, Virginia. Workshops are designed to
aid students in reading skills, parents who want to learn strategies to
assist their children with homework, adult non-readers, and those in
which English is a second language. |
