Using Google on Mobile Phones

By Terry Hawthorne

Google Apps integrates easily with mobile phones. Here are tips on how to check your email on Android and Blackberry phones. Google also has a web page devoted to mobile Gmail.

Android Phones

Android is a Google "brand," so Android phones have the best integration with Google Apps. Android phones come with native apps for Google Apps Gmail and Calendar. To add your scsb.org Google Apps account to your Android phone:

  1. Open your phone's Gmail app.
  2. Open the menu.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Touch the Add Account button.
  5. Follow the steps in the Add Account wizard. Remember to set up your account as username@scsb.org rather than username@gmail.com.

You can now check your mail in your personal Gmail and scsb.org Google Apps accounts by opening the Accounts menu and selecting the appropriate account. This procedure also adds your scsb.org Gmail calendar to your Android phone.

Blackberry Phones

  1. Point your Blackberry phone's browser to http://m.google.com/mail.
  2. Download the Gmail app on that page and install it on your Blackberry. This will require a restart on some Blackberry models.
  3. After installing and restarting, open the Gmail app and enter your Google Apps username (username@scsb.org) and Google Apps password.
