The Smyth County School Board met today with all members present in a joint budget meeting with the Smyth County Board of Supervisors.
Mr. Sullivan reviewed plans to address the 2002-2003 school board budget overage.
Mr. Sullivan reviewed efforts to cut expenditures for the 2003-2004 school year. This includes staffing, sizes of classes, hours of employment, assignments and supplements, and proper/efficient management of programs.
Mr. Sullivan reported on revenue and expenditures for the 2003-2004 school year School Operating Fund budget and County School Debt and Capital Outlay budget. Next year’s budget was built on an ADM of 4,950.
On motion of Mrs. Hall, seconded by Mr. Doane, the board voted unanimously to approve the School Operating Fund budget for 2003-2004 in the amount of $35,978,100, the County School Debt and Capital Outlay budget in the amount of $1,756,738, and the School Textbook Fund budget in the amount of $410,006.
On motion of Mr. Staley, seconded by Mr. Fullen, the Board of Supervisors voted to advertise a public hearing on the school board’s budget as presented. The motion passed with 6-0 vote.
The school board meeting was then continued in the board room at the school board office.
Mr. Sullivan introduced Ron Bostic and Greg Tucker of Bostic, Tucker and Company, P.C. Greg Tucker reviewed with the board his findings.
Mr. Sullivan updated the board on the selection process for a principal at Marion Senior High School.
On motion of Mr. Catron, seconded by Mr. Doane, the meeting was adjourned.
