The Smyth County School Board met today at 10:00 A.M., for a school board retreat at the General Francis Marion Hotel, 109 East Main Street, Marion, Virginia, with the following members present: Laura Hall, Sam Hambrick, Jesse Choate, Susan Sneed, Jerry Catron, and Jim Coulthard. Charles Doane arrived at 11:00 A.M.
Dr. Robinson updated the board on his meeting with MGT of America, Inc., regarding the Facility Study for Smyth County Schools.
The board heard a presentation from Sam Rosenthal with Rosenthal Insurance Consulting, Richmond, Virginia, on self-funded health insurance.
The board had lunch from the Black Rooster Restaurant.
Steve Darnell, Senior Account Manager with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, provided information on a health reimbursement account.
The board and superintendent reviewed and discussed evaluations completed on the school board and the superintendent.
Dr. Robinson reviewed the 2008-2009 school board budget revenue and expenditure figures and the budget book.
Dr. Robinson discussed the Six-Year Improvement Plan and The Key Work of School Boards.
The retreat adjourned at 4:00 P.M.
