The Smyth County School Board met today in a called meeting at 5:30 P.M., with all members present.
The meeting was called to hold a public hearing on the 2005-2006 school board budget.
Mr. Choate opened the public hearing to receive comments on the 2005-2006 school board budget.
Mr. Sullivan reviewed the projected revenue figures, salary scale for teachers, and additional positions needed for next year.
Betty Webb, Guidance Counselor at Northwood Middle School, made some comments regarding appropriations received from the county.
Joanne Groseclose, at teacher at Marion Intermediate School, thanked the board for their work on the salary scale for teachers for the 2005-2006 school year.
Catherine Smith, Co-President of the Smyth County Education Association, expressed her concerns about an increase in the number of personal days and the rate of pay for unused sick leave when an employee retirees. Mr. Choate assured her that the board was still studying this.
Kimberly Clark, board member, thanked the budget committee for all their hard work on the budget.
The public hearing was then closed.
The school board budget committee will schedule a joint meeting with the Smyth County Board of Supervisors' Budget Committee in April.
On motion by Mr. Catron, seconded by Ms. Sneed, the board voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting.
