The Smyth County School Board met today in a joint breakfast meeting with the Smyth County Board of Supervisors with the following members present: Roger Nipper, Susan Sneed, and Jerry Catron. The meeting was held at 7:00 A.M., in the library at the Marion Intermediate School, 820 Stage Street, Marion, Virginia.
The legislative breakfast was held as a part of the "VSBA Take Your Legislator to School Month."
Mr. Jerry Catron, Vice-Chairman of the Smyth County School Board, and Mr. Jim Sullivan, Superintendent of Smyth County Schools, welcomed all that were present for this breakfast and thanked Marion Intermediate School for preparing the breakfast.
Mr. Sullivan explained that the purpose of this meeting was to communicate with the legislators and board members. He conducted a brief PowerPoint presentation on educational and economic issues relative to Smyth County.
Delegate Joe Johnson made a few remarks regarding transportation, teachers' salaries, and education in general.
Charlie Clark, Chairman of the Smyth County Board of Supervisors, thanked all that were present for attending.
Tours of the school were provided by Mr. Steve Miller, Principal, and Mrs. Sue Davidson, Assistant Principal, Marion Intermediate School.
The meeting was then adjourned.
