Introduction of the PTP Committee Heads
General Announcements - Mrs. Rhea
School Improvement Plan is under development for 2007-2008
There are 3 primary goals that are carried over from last year
- Improve student achievement
- Measured by the 3rd graders' SOL test results
- Effective School-wide Discipline
- Focus on positive behaviors and character building (example: Kid Cash)
- Improve collaboration among school community
- Improve collaboration between teachers and parents (example: PTP) and also improve collaboration amongst teachers
Additional input to the School Improvement Plan is welcome
Welcoming Committee Update: Tracy Thompson
Reading Nooks -
- One of the reading nooks was approved by the Fire Marshall, but it is very expensive
- Now looking at potentially other materials for construction
Marquee Sign -
- The sign would be mounted below the current MPS sign and would have changeable signage
- Several vendors provided quotes along with different signage materials
- Vendor 1: $900 plus installation ($1,200 plus installation with a vandal guard)
- Vendor 2: Approximately $500, but the sign quality is lower than the one recommended by vendor 1.
Volunteer Committee Update: June Williams
- Volunteer Orientation was conducted this evening prior to the PTP meeting. The Homeroom Parent list will be sent home tomorrow to the parents who volunteered.
Appalachian Day (October 5th 8:30am - 12:30pm)
- A lot of volunteers so far
- One issue: Not all classes received the volunteer form for some reason
Book Fair (October 15-19)
- Volunteers needed Tuesday through Friday
Grandparents' Week (October 15-19)
- Same week as the Book Fair
- Volunteers are still needed
SOUL Night (September 27th 5:15pm - 6:30pm)
- Theme is "Don't Get Caught in the Parent Trap"
- Format will be a round table discussion. Need 2 parents from each of the 4 grade levels to lead the round table discussion.
Reminder: Fill out the volunteer form in the office each time you volunteer time at the school including PTP meetings. Last year there were 26 volunteers who filled out the volunteer logs and they logged over 2,000 hours!
Events Committee Update:
Duck Race (September 22nd) - Update by Mary Rogers
- Ticket sales halfway through are $3,300. The top seller will receive 2 Dollywood tickets (donated).
- There were a total of 4,000 tickets printed
- Local businesses have also donated $531 so far. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places donations were donated.
- Food so far has also been donated, but we are in need of some more donations for drinks.
- The food permit was approved and the fee was waived.
- Need sponsor signs - possibly from Gatorade?
- FM 103.5 will announce the sponsors during the live broadcast during the event
- Permit to block off East Chilhowie bridge is needed.
- Volunteers are needed to work the various games and assist with setup / cleanup
- Tents, canopies, tables, and chairs are also needed.
- Cost is $2 for an armband to play the games, $1 for face painting, $1 for a souvenir duck.
Communications Committee Update
- The new PTP banner was hung for tonight's meeting. It was a great means of publicity.
- Check out the new PTP website off the MPS website.
- We need to set up the bulletin board across from the office with the teachers' birthdays
- There are PTP mailboxes in the office.
- Volunteers are needed to decorate the former trophy case in the front lobby area.
"Candy Cane Lane" Craft Bazaar (November 10th) - Update by Kristy May
- The cost to vendors will be $25 per table / $40 for a table with electrical outlet
- Need parent volunteers to facilitate
- Also need to get the word out to local crafters
Food City Receipts
- " This year, you register your ValuCard instead of sending the receipts to the school. A "how-to" note will be sent home in next Tuesday's folder.
- We need to hang a receipt board that shows the progress toward the overall target.
