The Smyth County School Board will hold a public comment session during the January 14, 2013 meeting to receive feedback from the community on two proposed options for dividing the current Marion attendance area into attendance areas for Marion Elementary School and Oak Point Elementary School. The options being considered are presented below.
The current Marion attendance area has to be divided because Marion Elementary School and the new Oak Point Elementary School will both serve students in prekindergarten through grade 5 beginning in Fall 2013. Currently Marion Primary School, which will be renamed Marion Elementary, serves students in prekindergarten through grade 2. Marion Intermediate School serves Marion area students in grades 3-5.
Maps showing details of the proposed attendance areas are on display at Marion Primary School, Marion Intermediate School, and the school board office at 121 Bagley Circle, Suite 300, Marion. You can also access online versions of these maps below. Questions may be directed to Jeffrey Cassell, Assistant Superintendent for Administration, at 276-783-3791.
