The Automotive Technology course is a multi-purpose program. The main emphasis of the program is to provide each student with the knowledge and skills necessary to work within the automotive field. Students are exposed to an environment wherein they will also learn skills necessary to function in any occupation. In addition, this course also aims to teach each student pride in one's own work, confidence, dependability, and respect. According to ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) standards, students participating in this course should:
This course is offered to Smyth County students enrolled in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. It is a two-year course consisting of 1080 hours of instructions. Students that successfully complete the course should have numerous opportunities to earn excellent wages at entry-level parts advisors, automotive technicians, shop owners, automobile dealers, or in the automotive manufacturing field.
Opportunities for advanced education within this field are available through Nashville Automotive Diesel College.
