Career Exploration for Elementary and Middle School Students Teachers will use the Internet to access career information for elementary students. VoiceThreads: Collaborative Multimedia Development A VoiceThread is an online media album that can hold essentially any type of media (images, documents and videos) and allows people to make comments in 5 different ways - using voice (with a microphone or telephone), text, audio file, or video (with a webcam) - and share them with anyone they wish. They can even be exported to an Archival Movie for offline use on a DVD or video-enabled MP3 player. What Is That!? Decoding Technology Jargon This session introduces many of the new technology terms that currently are being used that many teachers aren't familiar with. Blogging 101 This session will be an introduction to edublogs, go over the several different free host sites where teachers/individuals can set up a blog for classroom use, and introduce the elements involved in blog management. Get It From the Internet Teachers will learn about basic Web 2.0 features. They will be shown how to access Open Courseware as well as other Internet resources to enhance their classroom. Career Exploration Teachers will be shown a variety of Internet sites for student use in career exploration and college preparation. This will also include several skill assessment websites to match students’ skills, interests, and abilities to potential careers. Ease of Excel Excel for Beginners: Teachers will learn how to create a basic Excel spreadsheet and use it to record, average, graph, and print. The main application will be for teachers to learn to average student grades in Microsoft Excel. Dawn Hutton Anyone Yes 1 hour
21st Century Skills Teachers will learn the recommended skills, knowledge and expertise recommended by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills for students to be competitive in the workforce. Teachers will learn of websites to locate valuable teaching material to incorporate these skills into the classroom. The primary focus will be on teaching global awareness. Students need to understand global issues and be able to relate to other cultures both inside and outside our borders in order to thrive in the 21st Century. All About Digital Photography This workshop will provide a hands-on introduction to digital imaging techniques. If you have a digital camera or digital images on a USB drive or CD, please bring them to the workshop. If not, we will have sample images for your use. We will cover:
  • Transferring digital images from the camera to the computer
  • Digital image formats
  • Resizing, cropping, sharpening, and other editing techniques
  • Using digital images in PowerPoint, Web pages, email, and print documents.

Curriki If you like Blackboard.com, you will love Curriki. Curriki is available FREE online for your course development. This online community allows you to create your class online or provides access to a repository of courses already developed for your use. What Can GIS Do For You? Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be used by everyone! If you have data that can be linked to a place on earth you can use GIS. VDOE has provided every county the ARCView 9.2 software for free.
