IMPORTANT NOTICES - Smyth County School Board
The Smyth County School Board is seeking candidates for the interim appointment of the Saltville District School Board seat for a term, beginning on or around October 9, 2023, through qualification of a member elected in a special election to be held on November 5, 2024 . This seat will be vacant due to the resignation of Saltville District School Board member Roger “Peanut” Frye. In accordance with the Code of Virginia, Section § 24.2-228, when a vacancy occurs, the School Board shall appoint a qualified voter and resident of the election district in which the vacancy occurs.
Interested residents of the Saltville District of Smyth County are invited to submit both a letter of interest and a resume on or before 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2023, to the attention of:

Applicants will be announced at a public hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m. during the September 11, 2023, School Board meeting at Saltville Elementary School.
Due to maintenance issues at the Central Office, the Smyth County School Board will be holding its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at Saltville Elementary School on Monday, September 11, 2023. Closed session will begin at 5:00 p.m. with open session to follow at 6:00 p.m.
A Public Hearing, to gather input and announce the applicants for the Saltville District School Board vacancy, will be held during the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
