Homeless Education
In Virginia, a student is considered homeless if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes children and youth who are living in the following:
- shelters or transitional housing,
- hotels/motels,
- campgrounds,
- cars,
- temporarily staying with others due to loss of housing or financial hardship (doubled-up)
Smyth County Public Schools is committed to supporting students and families experiencing homelessness by providing resources, assistance, and educational stability. If you or someone you know is in need of support, please visit any of the resources below and/or contact our district’s Homeless Liaison for assistance.
Together, we can ensure that all students have access to the education and support they deserve.
